Question of the Week Monday 26 September

There are 8 points up for grabs this week!

1.     Nazeera tied two sacks of salt to the back of her donkey and headed for the market to sell the salt. On the way, Nazeera and the donkey passed a stream. The donkey jumped in to cool himself. As a result, much of the salt dissolved into the water, ruining the salt for Nazeera but improving matters for the donkey because his load became much lighter. Nazeera tried to get to the market on the following days, but the donkey always ruined the salt. Finally, Nazeera decided to teach the donkey a lesson. She once again set out with the donkey and the two sacks.
What did Nazeera do differently this time so that after that day the    donkey stopped taking a swim? 1 point

2.     When a human body is exposed to the vacuum of space without protective gear it explodes. True or false. Explain. 2 points only for the answer AND explanation.

3.     Is there a dark side of the moon? 2 points for the correct answer and explanation.

4.     Is there gravity in space? 2 points for the correct answer and explanation.

5.     Arrange five 8's so that they equal 9.
You may not use a plus or minus sign. 1 point

  1. 2/ false the human body implodes because of the pressure

  2. 3there is a dark side of the moon because it's the part of the moon the sunlight doesnt hit and it's never really facing the earth at night

  3. 4. there is no gravity in space but planets great a pull of there own

  4. 1. he may of found another way to cool the donkey down by keeping it in shade with an umbrelle or fanning

  5. Also #3 is incorrect Grace, think about it and also do some research.

  8. 3)no moon always keeps one face towards us, so conversely if you were at an outpost on that face you would consistently see the earth at the same place in the sky every day all of the time (the Earth would rotate in front of you and even go through phases like the moon does but that’s about it)

  9. 5)8 divided by (.8 8 8 8 ) = 9.00090009000-- and so on, which is estimated to 9

  10. 4)There IS gravity in space, and is caused by mass. Any mass has gravity - the moon and mars both have gravity proportional to their mass.., A spacesuit does not keep you on the surface, but gravity does...

  11. 3 there is not a dark side litreally during the new moon the dark siderfaces the earth

  12. even though out of space is know as 0 gravity zone there is a gravittional pull from the earth and planets

  13. 1) he may puted plastic bag of the salt so it wont get wet

  14. 2. false you usually die from lack of oxygen if you have direct exposure to sun light u get serious sun burn.

  15. true n scores of science fiction stories, hapless adventurers find themselves unwittingly introduced to the vacuum of space without proper protection. There is often an alarming cacophony of screams and gasps as the increasingly bloated humans writhe and spasm. Their exposed veins and eyeballs soon bulge in what is clearly a disagreeable manner. The ill-fated adventurers rapidly swell like over-inflated balloons, ultimately bursting in a gruesome spray of blood

  21. there is a dark side of the moon because the sun doesnt completely cover the moon and the dark side changes depending on the moons postion in orbit

    3. There is no dark side of the moon. A part of a round moon that one doesn't see (At all times except full moon) is covered by shadows.

    4. There is gravity in space - THis, however comes from other planets and stars around, and is therefore very limited.

  24. Felix Noora already got this answer.Mr A

  25. When we see a new moon (which we can’t see unless its blocking the sun), we are seeing the same side we always do. Except that it’s dark. It’s completely dark because it is now night on that side. When we see a first quarter moon (half full, sets around midnight), the side we see is still the same side we always do, but half of it is lit and half of it is dark – night and day.

When we see a full moon, again, we see the same side we always do, but now the half that’s dark is completely facing away from us, and the entire part that is in day is what is facing us.

  27. Grace, thats not right about the moon.
Only question left to answer is #3.
    Mr A

  28. Noora that's a pretty good explanation but you are missing one important fact.
    Mr A

    ReplyDelete
  29. Now, just as the earth rotates on its axis as it orbits the sun, the moon also rotates on its axis while it orbits Earth.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Noora, Grace...Why do we see the moon?
    Mr A

    ReplyDelete
  31. It is in synchronous rotation with Earth, always showing the same face; the near side is marked with dark volcanic maria among the bright ancient crustal highlands and prominent impact craters.

    ReplyDelete
  32. when ever we see the moon at night it is always rotaes on it axis and at night it's always facing the earth with the same time then in the day

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes I'll give you those two points for #3 noora.
    well done.
