DANGER!!! BLACK HOLE LOCATED BELOW!!!! DO NOT CLICK!

Check out this weeks Question of the week!

19 comments:

  1. 1) A black hole

2)It is the brightest astronomical radio source.

    3) 1 light year is the distance travelled by light in a year.

    4)Distance from earth to Cass A is 11,000 light years. Speed of the shuttle is 0.5 (3 x 10^8) which is 1.5 x 10^8. Therefore, time = 11,000 light years/(1.5 x 10^8)

    Which is=6.937720827 x 10^11 sec, 1.156286804 x 10^10 min, 192,714,467.4 hours, 8,029,769.475 days, 21,999 years!!

    5) It is believed to have exploded 300 years ago but there is no written records of the sightings of the supernova but that is probably due to the interstellar dust which absorbs the radiation before it can reach the earth.

  2. Is this the sort of stuff they do at IB Astrophysics?

Can you also please post a question on relativity just for me to understand what it requires and compare it to the astrophysics question? Thank you (I mean the relativity question is not for marks, but for my reference, if thats alright with you)

  4. I would think you will look at these in IB. Question: How did Einstein come up with his famous basis of Relativity and that is that the speed of light is constant in any frame of reference? To answer this question you must first understand what a frame of reference is and what happens to objects speeds and then why light is different.

  7. About our webquest - we are finding it difficult to find sources that tell us about the cost of dams. We are making progress but not so much. Everything is done - except for the amounts. our presentation is ready.

  11. 1)The picture shows the supernova remnant of Cas A

2)It is cooling very rapidly causing a neutron superfluid.

    5) 330 years ago

  14. Mr A,

I was looking at the year 7 physics part and you said that our physics webquest project is due April 4th. It was because of Holi holiday on Monday, but I have not been aware of a Science excursion on the 28th. Not even a form. How do I get information on this?
    Thanks,

    DR :)
