Super Moon Questions for next week, 21 March!!
A new set of questions has been posted, you can start answering now! Ritish is still in the lead, closely followed by Felix.
1) It is a new or full moon which occurs when the moon is closest to the earth
2)10% or between 354,000 km and 410,000 km away from the earth
3)The proximity of the moon causes an increased gravitational force leading to stronger tides and more plate movement. But there is a lot of speculation on the link between the super moon and natural disasters like earthquakes.
4)Perigees is the point where moon is closest to the earth. Apogee is the furthermost point from the earth and the furthermost point from the center of the moon's orbit.
5)The earth can expect abnormally high tides and some small quakes
howdy Mr.A... i have a question. ive been workin my way through the Viv Heffenan...sorry, Viv Newman physics book...doin the questions...there are no answers in the back of the book, so i dont know what im doin is right or wrong... thankyou. P
1.a super moon is when the moon is at its closest position to earth 2. 31,000 miles closer to Earth than normal 3. astrologers believe that the gravitational attraction of the Moon triggers earthquakes because the gravitational effect of the moon on earth is strong and this causes earthquakes and volcanoes. but scientists do not agree 4. apogee - point in the moons orbit which is farthest from earth perigee - point in the moons orbit which is closest to earth 5. make the tides higher than usual
3. The moons gravity tries to pull the land to itself, but looses to the strength of the Earths gravity. However the moons gravity does slightly pull the land up and then it comes back down because of the Earths gravity.
